Care Advice

Many of the fabrics I use are specialist fabrics and with this require some care.

WAX COATS

Wax Coats are not machine washable and should not be washed at all.  To clean a wax coat take a soft brush and gently and carefully brush away any dry mud.  It can be wiped clean using cold water and a clean cloth.  Detergents and chemicals should never be used.  From time to time re-waxing may be required.  There are wax sprays available.  Some mills also offer re-waxing facilities if required.

COLLARS AND LEADS

The webbing on all my collars and leads are machine washable.  The fabrics and trims are also washable either by hand or on a very gentle, delicate cycle.  It is recommended that you put your collar or lead in a pillowcase or washbag prior to washing.  This will give added protection to your collar or lead and also your washing machine.  Items used for washing your items in should be colourfast.  Dry flat.  Do not tumble dry or iron.  Keep away from any heat source.  All fittings used by BleakHounds Design are either nickel plate or quality, solid brass. As with any plating water can lodge beneath the plating and cause the steel to rust and show through.  It is recommended that should your collars get constantly wet or washed regularly that you choose our brass fittings.  Please request at check out.

It should be noted that in washing your collar/lead that you use a substance such as soap flakes that are suitable for delicate fabrics.  PLEASE DO NOT USE BIOLOGICAL DETERGENT.  These contain bleaching agents and will damage the fabric and could cause dye to run.

TWEED COATS, HARRIS TWEED COATS, WOOL/WOOL BLEND COATS, HARRIS TWEED COLLARS

As with any 100% wool or wool blend product, these should be carefully dry cleaned by a reputable company who specialise in cleaning these products.  Responsibility for successful cleaning remains with the purchaser.  My Harris Tweed Collars may be spot cleaned or hand washed very carefully using a product for cleaning wool.  BleakHounds Design cannot accept any responsibility for any items damaged during the cleaning process.
